While we're nearing the end of pride month in Washington, D.C., we kicked off the month being able to photograph Benjamin and Ryan's engagement party at Old Engine 12.
Benjamin and Ryan met February 2009 because of two friends and a surprise birthday party. Almost eight years later, they're finally getting married. We were loved that we were able to photograph their more casual, low-key engagement party the weekend before the Pride kick-off. "For the engagement party, we were looking for a place that had some unique DC charm for our out-of-town family and friends to experience without being too stuffy or overly formal," they said. "Along those same lines, we liked that Old Engine 12 had great food and drinks that were accessible to a variety of palettes. We also wanted a venue that was beautiful enough on its own and didn't need a ton of extra dressing up! Old Engine 12 checked all of these boxes."
"For planning and engagement party, the best advice we can give to other couples is to be true to yourselves as a couple. Your guests will respond to that authenticity. You also don't have to break the bank—celebrating with loved ones far outweighs all the little costs that can add up quickly. Everyone will remember the love and shared experience more than they will anything else. Finally, ACCEPT HELP when it is offered," they said.
This may be one of the largest group photos we've done!
